DEESIDE POWER STATION - WORKING WITH THE LOCAL COMMUNITY

ARTS PROJECT

Paintings were presented in January 2009 to Mike Maudsley – Station Manager, by local adults recovering from drug and alcohol abuse. The Artwork was created in a local counselling centre by adults using services provided by Flintshire county council and the NHS trust under the direction of local artist Andrea Davies.

The clients all found that painting was a great relaxation therapy and helped them when they were feeling vulnerable. Many of the clients had become abusers because of extremely traumatic events in their lives.  Attending the group had a massive impact on their lives not only in their newfound interest in art, but also in terms of confidence and self esteem.

Artwork and working within the group has given the clients a focus, a distraction and a therapeutic benefit.

2010 ARTS PROJECT

Deeside Power has supported a further arts project, also under the guidance of artist Andrea davies, which culminated in an exhibition at Clwyd Theatr Cymru of work created by the service users who attend the Deeside Drug and Alcohol Counselling Centre. Although many of the painting are of relaxing and beautiful environments, the artists were also asked to paint pictures depicting health and safety issues at work. This art work will be displayed around the Deeside Power Station site.
