Safety Performance

2008

2008 was another excellent year for Deeside in the management of health and safety issues, despite recording a Lost Time Accident (without serious consequences) for the first time in nearly three years.

The site plant maintenance programme suggested that no major maintenance projects were required in 2008, but despite a number of unexpected problems on plant and consequent repairs, only four, minor, first aid incidents were recorded. This is the lowest number recorded since the plant was commissioned.

Deeside introduced its behavioural safety programme, Fresh Eyes, in 2007 and this was developed further during 2008. Many tasks were observed and several important improvements were made in safety management as a result.

2008 also saw the completion of the aim to train all staff in IOSH Managing Safely. Those members of staff trained in the past are to undergo refresher training in 2009.

Deeside has also introduced a computer based training package for all staff in Health and Safety matters relevant to their work.
