DEESIDE POWER - OPERATIONS - The Site The power station occupies a 12-hectare (30 acre) site on land formerly owned by Corus, Shotton that remains a close neighbour on the Deeside Industrial Park. The site has good connections with the main trunk road network, which has been enhanced by the construction of a new road across the River Dee close to the power station.
The proximity of access to the national gas transmission network and the National Grid electricity substation on the other side of the river at Connah's Quay, together with the availability of cooling water from the River Dee, were important factors in the siting of the power station. The compact layout of the site blends with the industrial landscape inland. The main site buildings and the low level cooling towers have a minimal impact on the visual environment of Dee estuary.
